KOGAS GSM-2101 Piping Material Standard for LNG Projects

Korea Gas Corporation (KOGAS) is South Korea's state LNG importer and distributor, operating import terminals at Incheon, Pyeongtaek, Tongyeong, and Samcheok — together one of the world's largest LNG import infrastructure networks. KOGAS publishes its own Gas Standards Manual (GSM), of which GSM-2101 covers the specification and approval of piping materials for use in KOGAS LNG terminal and distribution infrastructure.

Under KOGAS GSM-2101, piping materials must comply with approved ASTM, ASME, or Korean KS standards, and all materials require Korean Gas Safety Corporation (KGS) approval documentation. For cryogenic LNG service (at -162°C), austenitic stainless steel grades (ASTM A312 TP316L, TP304L) and 9% nickel steel are the primary approved materials. For ambient-temperature utility and process piping at KOGAS terminals, duplex stainless steel (ASTM A790 S31803, A182 F51) is approved for seawater cooling and chloride-service applications.
