ASME B31.1 Power Piping — Super Duplex Piping Spools

ASME B31.1 Power Piping is the governing pressure piping design code for steam boilers, turbine extraction lines, feed water systems and high-temperature power plant headers. Super duplex UNS S32750 spools designed and fabricated to B31.1 Power Piping benefit from the grade's combination of high allowable stress (nearly double 316L at equivalent wall thickness) and excellent corrosion resistance, enabling thinner walls and lighter spools in aggressive service. Spool fabrication includes PWHT assessment, pipe supporting, branch reinforcement and nozzle calculations per the applicable code section.

Ragnar Metals fabricates spools with MTRs traceable to heat number, weld maps, NDE records and spool data sheets per ASME B31.1 Power Piping requirements. Weld procedures qualified per ASME IX; welders certified per ASME IX. Dimensional inspection to ISO 13920 Class B.

ASME B31.1 Power Piping Code governs the design, fabrication, and testing of pressure piping in power generation plants, including steam and utility piping. Duplex and super duplex stainless steel spools fabricated to ASME B31.1 are typically used in chemical injection systems, seawater cooling circuits, and condensate systems on thermal and nuclear power plants. B31.1 spool fabrication requires full penetration welds with backing rings or back-purge argon shielding for stainless steel, WPS/PQR qualified per ASME Section IX, and a final hydrostatic test at 1.5× design pressure. Dimensional control per ASME B16.9 (butt weld fittings) and B16.5 (flanges). Weld maps, isometrics, and NDE records supplied with each spool.
