ASME B31.3 Process Piping — Super Duplex Piping Spools

ASME B31.3 Process Piping is the governing pressure piping design code for chemical plant process lines, refinery unit piping, offshore topsides and petrochemical reactor connections. Super duplex UNS S32750 spools designed and fabricated to B31.3 Process Piping benefit from the grade's combination of high allowable stress (nearly double 316L at equivalent wall thickness) and excellent corrosion resistance, enabling thinner walls and lighter spools in aggressive service. Spool fabrication includes PWHT assessment, pipe supporting, branch reinforcement and nozzle calculations per the applicable code section.

B31.3 specifies fluid categories (Normal, Category D, Category M, and High Pressure) that govern NDE extent: Normal fluid service requires 5% random RT or UT on welds; Category M (toxic fluid) requires 100% RT on all welds. Shop-fabricated duplex spools include full WPS/PQR documentation to ASME Section IX, positive material identification (PMI) of all components, and hydrotest or pneumatic test per B31.3 Paragraph 345.
