ASTM A790 / ASME SA-790 Seamless and Welded Duplex Pipe

ASTM A790 (ASME SA-790) covers seamless and straight-seam electric-fusion-welded duplex and super duplex stainless steel pipe. Grade S32750 (2507) pipe to A790 is widely used in offshore risers, subsea flowlines, chemical injection systems and desalination plant piping where the combination of high strength, low thermal expansion and chloride-SCC resistance is required.

Each pipe is solution annealed and tested per A790 requirements: hydrostatic (or electric test), visual, dimensions and nondestructive. Welded pipe receives 100% radiographic or ultrasonic examination of the weld seam. Intermetallic phase check (A923 Method A screen) confirms absence of secondary phases. Certifications include EN 10204 3.1 MTC and NACE MR0175 compliance statement.

ASTM A790 / Duplex Pipe Schedule & Test Requirements

ASTM A790 (ASME SA790) is the primary standard for seamless and welded duplex and super duplex stainless steel pipe. Grades covered include S31803 (2205), S32205 (2205 Modified), S32750 (2507), and S32760 (Zeron 100). All A790 pipe must pass a hydrostatic test per ASTM A999 at a minimum of 1.5× the allowable stress, or an alternative nondestructive electric test. For welded pipe (EFW/ERW), 100% radiographic or ultrasonic weld seam inspection is required. ASTM A790 pipe is available in NPS 1/8 to 30 in schedules 5S, 10S, 40S, 80S, and XXS.
