ASTM A928 / ASME SA-928 Electric-Fusion-Welded Duplex Pipe

ASTM A928 (ASME SA-928) covers electric-fusion-welded duplex stainless steel pipe in nominal pipe sizes NPS 2 through NPS 24 (larger diameters available by agreement). The EFW process is suited to large diameter, heavy wall pipe where seamless manufacture is impractical. Grade S31803 and S32750 pipes to A928 are used in large-bore offshore headers, storage tank nozzles, seawater lift caissons and desalination plant headers.

A928 EFW pipe from Ragnar Metals includes a full weld repair record, post-weld heat treatment (PWHT) record and corrosion test coupon (ASTM A923 Method C for S32750 grade) confirming no sigma phase. Radiographic films and UT scans are archived for 10 years and available on request.

ASTM A928 / Electric Fusion Welded Duplex Pipe Specifications

ASTM A928 (ASME SA928) covers electric fusion welded duplex stainless steel pipe fabricated with filler metal from strip or plate. Unlike seamless pipe (ASTM A790), A928 EFW pipe is used for larger diameters (NPS 4 and above) where seamless manufacturing is impractical. The weld seam must pass 100% radiographic examination per ASTM E94 and destructive testing (root bend, face bend, and guided-bend tests) on the seam weld. ASTM A928 pipe is solution annealed after welding to restore corrosion resistance and eliminate heat-affected zone sensitisation. Available in NPS 4 to 60 with wall thickness from Schedule 5S to Schedule 40S in grades S31803, S32205, S32750, and S32760.
